42nd Street

Posted at 1:59 pm in Photography.

This past week, Oak Park High School presented their annual musical production. This was 42nd Street, which was very well done. I practiced my stage photography skills on the unsuspecting students, the results which can be seen in the gallery. I’ll be providing high-res print friendly versions of the images to those that request them. It will just take a little while as I’m working on another project that is due in the middle of May. Enjoy the shots and send me an email if you want a high-res copy of a certain photo.

School’s done, off to work

Posted at 9:39 pm in Photography, School, Travel, Work.

Finished off the last exam today. Feels great to be done. So now I have a quick turn around before I start my summer with Manitoba Hydro Tuesday. There is lots to do and little time to do it. Biggest thing on the to do list: get ready for South Africa. That’s right, I’ll be on a photo safari this June, which should be a lot of fun. I can’t wait, but I still have a lot to read, learn, and do before going…guess I had better get started!

Silver Medal for Shannon!

Posted at 6:03 pm in General.

If you missed it, and can’t tell from the title, the Canadian Women’s Speed Skating Team which participated in the Women’s Team Pursuit won a Silver medal. Since Shannon is part of the team, she was won a medal! I can officially say I know an olympic medalist.
And she’s not finished at the Olymipcs yet, she still has the 1000 meter and 1500 meter races to go.

Now I really should get back to my school work….watching the Olympics is addictive!

If you are reading this…

…the move to a new server was succesful! I’ve been getting tired of DreamHost’s poor uptime and their very unprofessional “newslettery” (that’s what they called it!). So I’ve moved my personal domain over to greener pastures where the rest of my domains are hosted and the service is better. If you feel like signing up with 1&1, make sure you use this link so I get credit for sending you to them.
Moving WordPress (what runs my blog) was fairly easy to migrate, it was Gallery (which runs my photo gallery) that took some time. It is still not quite functioning correctly as the midsize thumbnails are not being generated. I’ll be working at fixing this as soon as possible. Until next time, enjoy the greener pastures!

I knew it would happen…

Posted at 12:33 am in General.

I started this blog, but then got a little busy and didn’t keep it up. Recently someone actually noticed (I have at least one reader!), so here it goes, the long over due update…

I last left off at the end of July. I spent most of August working at MB Hydro and preparing for the start of class, well actually, planning for EngO and getting the Promotions Directorship for UMES in order and ready to go. That basically sums up August. Now on to September…

We, the engineering students and faculty, took possession of the new Engineering 2 building on September 1 2005. That meant moving into the new UMES offices. At the same time, the EngO committee was finalizing the last details of the orientation to be held the following week for incoming engineering students. Much of the long weekend was spent on these final details…

EngO started bright and early Tuesday, Sept. 6. We showed the frosh a good time with a BBQ lunch, evening of bowling, marching around campus, and finishing the second day with a party and billiards at Triple B’s.

Promotions is now in full force, advertising all the events put on by UMES. We have an average of one poster per week, which is a lot of posters! Plus all the banners on the UMES website and other random graphics jobs here and there.

We had the Grand Opening of the new Engineering 2 on September 23. This was a big media event with Premier Doer and MP Reg Alcock in attendance. The Symonized Engineering Marching Band also had a revival that day. Check out the shots in the Gallery.

The big event for September was WiseGuys101 featuring Men In Kilts, held at WiseGuys on Campus. This took a lot of time to get the posters ready as we lacked photos of the band. But it all worked out in the end and it was a fun night (except for my cold!).

We are now into October and I’ve had to actually start doing some school work. That’s right. I do go to class. Midterms are coming up and I have some assignments due, so this is the end of this post. Thanks for reading. Check back in December for another post!

July Post

Posted at 8:47 pm in General.

I have been very negligent in posting. So here is my only post for July.
I’ve been very busy with UMES preparing the Engenda for next year. This huge project is now complete and off to the printers. Nothing to do with it until the printed copies come back the end of August. Now it is on to EngO, an orientation to engineering for frosh, held the first two days before official classes start in September. The planning is well underway. I am also getting the Promotion wheels turning and preparing for September. There is a lot to do during the summer to get ready for next year!
For non-UMES related stuff, I checked out the American Solar Challenge during the stop over here in Winnipeg. I also had the opportunity to visit the new wind farm in St. Leon as part of an all-day department meeting. Check out my shots in the gallery.

It’s Jazz Festival time!

Posted at 8:59 pm in Jazz.

That’s right! The Jazz Winnipeg Festival is in full swing. As usual, I’m working on the security crew so I get to see as many shows as possible. I’m really looking forward to Dave Holland, James Carter and the amazing Ed Thigpen (Oscar Peterson’s drummer, for those that don’t know…). Check out the shows, you won’t be disapointed.

U of M Parking is expensive…

Posted at 10:56 am in General.

I hate how much they charge for parking. It just keeps going up and up and up. Last year it was $380 now it is $422.65 which is just crazy! At least I got through to the UMREG system in about an hour. Poor Steve and others, 2+ hours to get through…….All I can say is what a ripoff!
